Synopsis

This new, revised and expanded edition of Of Fish and Men is a heart warming and often amusing collection of anecdotes and personal observations from over forty years of fishing, linked by a commentary on the author’s life and times. The book is about much more than fishing; it is about characters and countryside, and about fitting a cherished pastime around the demands of career and family. The reader is taken into the author’s middle years and a perceptive commentary on the stresses and strains of midlife.

For anyone who admits to human frailty, this new edition will be a comfort, as the author writes just as freely of his failures and frustrations, as of his successes. The book promises a rewarding and entertaining read for anglers, country lovers, and anyone with Scottish roots or leanings. The expanded version will be a delight to all who enjoyed the original book. It will also strike a chord with any reader struggling to come to terms with the particular frustrations of the midlife crisis, or just reaching that time when they begin to question what it’s all about.

About the Author

Dr David C. Watson was born in Edinburgh in 1958 and attended George Watson’s College in Morningside. He graduated from Edinburgh University with a degree in Ecological Science and went on to complete a PhD in Marine Ecology at Glasgow University. He now works on a major industrial site in North West of England where he is responsible for environmental compliance. Married with two sons, the extensive new material for this expanded version of Dr Watson’s first highly acclaimed book, was written in the brief moments of calm between work and ferrying his sons to various out-of-school activities.
