Cualann Press is based in Scotland and publishes a small number of books on historical and outdoor topics.

Two world wars in the twentieth century have given rise to an unprecedented abundance of manuscripts of war memoirs, sometimes horror-filled because of man’s inhumanity to man, but often uplifting and inspiring with the heroic generosity that war has at times induced.

Many such works have reached the printing house and are now published as books, but many more true war stories are locked away in archives or gather dust in cupboards and drawers. And yet, realistically speaking, the publishing world can only handle a fraction of available writings and turn them into books. To date, most of our books are related to Scotland or Scottish soldiers during the First or Second World War. There is also a title reaching back to the Victorian era in Scotland and a National Service biography of historical interest. However, publishing worthwhile books relating to Scottish outdoor activities, travel in Scotland or writings of significant non-military Scottish historical importance are also of interest to us.

If, as Shakespeare said, ‘There is a history in all men’s lives,’ and if preserving history is important for future generations, experiences and thoughts expressed verbally or in writing by people in all walks of life may be of permanent value. Cualann Press aims to keep these possibilities in mind.
